“The mountains had bestowed on us their beauties, and we adored them with a child’s simplicity and revered them with a monk’s veneration of the divine. Annapurna,”

Maurice Herzog

Trekking in Annapurna region is one of the most classic trekking trails offered by Himalayas. It is no wonder that this trekking route is wildly popular among the first time as well as returning trekkers, as this region is blessed with the best of landscapes, culture and hospitality that Nepal has to offer. The region derives its name from Mt.AnnapurnaI(8091m), the 10th highest mountain in the world which was first summited by two French climbers, Maurice Herzog and Louis Lachenal in 3rd June 1950.

Spring as well as fall is the best trekking time, as it is impossible to traverse through Thorang La pass (5,400m) during winter because of snow. There are various trekking options in Annapurna region, depending upon your time and need and the trek though demanding, can be done by even novice trekkers that are in good fitness form. The journey begins from Kathmandu, the national capital and then we drive to another picturesque city Pokhara. The major highlights of this trek include descent into the deepest gorge in the world- the Kali Gandaki. This hike involves trekking through subtropical jungle to high-altitude plateau and variety of flora and fauna will grace your way; from rhododendron, pine and bamboo forests to view of majestic mountains that garland the sky and small welcoming Gurung villages that are rich in local way of life.

Homestay

Homestay is quite an authentic way of experiencing local culture, as one will be an intimate part of local family, sharing local produce, living space and most importantly even for a brief period, the life of a visitor will intertwine with that of welcoming hosts, an experience that transcends beyond the usual tourism experience. It is no wonder then, this kind of first-hand experience not only connects people to the place, cultural heritages and landscape of one’s trip duration but also helps to connect to the people of the land.

Homestay is gaining popularity in Nepal, after the government of Nepal officially backed the program in the year 2011. This program added a different dimension to tourism sector as it opens of more avenues for the tourist to broaden his/her experience.

In the beginning, these programs were implemented in Lamjung district (Ghalegaun) and Syanga district (Sirubari). These days, with the gaining popularity, many regions including the capital Kathmandu, Makawanpur, Kavrepalanchowk, Chitwan, Ilam, Gorkha, Palpa, Kailali, Kalikot, etc.. offer homstay packages. Generally, it is more convenient for the backpackers or the people on tighter budget but anyone with interest in humanistic side of tourism are more than welcome to explore this. These programs not only boost eco-tourism but it also helps the marginal communities economically, provides learning experience to the host family as well as the guest in the way that will benefit them both, an experience sure to transcend the barriers imposed by language, society and geography.

Yoga and Mindfullness

It is quite evident that Nepal is full of amazing landscapes, mountain vistas, many world heritage sites and also, diverse and unique culture that is second to none. The beautiful picturesque views, ancient temples, rhododendron forests and delicious local foods do magic to our senses and it is no wonder, the number of tourists visiting this country is only increasing day by day. Some come here to discover a new paradigm of reality, some to climb the tallest mountains and some people are just not sure of why, but they feel some unknown pull towards this mythical Sangri-la and are seeking for some inner-serenity in this land of Buddha.

If you feel the chaotic life of 9-4 and monotonous nature of your routine is turning you into machine, may be a decent break should re-charge and re-invigorate your sense of being. This is exactly why, we have designed few packages that will not only delight your senses, but on the process, you could learn how to still your mind, reign in the only chaos that you can control and it is not the one outside of you. This combination of trekking with practicing mindfulness will be an ultimate journey because, not only you will be hiking towards some geographical destination but you will also be on an inner journey that we hope will bring more peace and stillness in your inner being and thus your projection of your ‘self’ on the outer world!

As Lord Buddha said,“Peace comes from within, do not seek without.”

poon hill trek
Poon Hill Trek follows one of the most popular Himalayan trails that Nepal has to offer, the Annapurna Base Camp trail.
