Solukhumbu Homestay Nepal: Pikey Peak Summit

9 Days

Overview

Our Solukhumbu Homestay Nepal package takes you towards the famed area in eastern Nepal, Solukhumbu district, home to many of the tallest and mid-range mountains in whole world. This trip is designed for people who want to savor the tremendous views of the mountain ranges, hilly slopes, and many different kinds of flora and fauna of this region while experiencing the local cultural diversity first hand.

This entry-level package is designed for people of all walks of life as compared to other demanding Everest region treks, this one falls into a relatively easy to moderate level of difficulty. During the hike, it won’t be surprising to see Buddhist monasteries followed by Hindu temples atop hills overlooking vast valleys. The religious and cultural amalgamation between people of different cultures is something amazing. If you travel during the spring, you will be greeted by Rhododendron forests in their full bloom contrasting their reddish hue with the majestic mountains in the background.

Solukhumbu Homestay Nepal is rich in people of various religions and cultural backgrounds, thus providing an ample opportunity to peek at their worlds and be a part of them for the duration of this trip. Not only you will get to observe their way of life but you can also participate in their day to day lifestyle, ranging from yak herding/tilling to other agricultural chores, if you choose to. You can also be part of their cultural festivals.

During the hike, you will experience the lifestyles of Sherpa, Magar, Rai, Chhetri as well as Newar people. You will be served authentic local food and beverages during the time for your stay. This trek will focus on the lower region of Solukhumbu but this doesn’t mean you will miss out on natural wonders this region has to offer.

Solukhumbu Homestay Nepal trip begins at Dhap and we hike towards Jhapre village (2920m/9580ft) for an overnight stay. There, you will be hosted by a local family and you will get to try local delicacies, beverages, etc. These families even though not so prosperous in terms of material wealth are renowned for their simplicity, warm hospitality, and their way of life.

Most of the visitors who have stayed with them aren’t exaggerating when they say that it was quite an experience for them. To see these people face adversities of life and to face them with such dignity and humbleness is something extraordinary for outside observers. It’s not to say that, dire poverty is to be applauded rather the fact that despite all that, the flame of humanity, kinship, and cooperation seems to be the guiding light for locals here and it’s a beautiful feeling to be part of it.

Itinerary

Trek Venture Nepal Pvt.Ltd team will welcome you on your arrival in Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) and transfer you to your hotel, followed by on the way briefing about your schedule and activities.

Your tour guide for the day trip would help you explore the most popular, rich cultural heritage site of Nepal with basic information of its historic background. After the half day city tour, your guide will leave the rest of day by yourself for trek preparation or relaxing.

The journey now begins with the drive to Dhap. The hustle and bustle atmosphere, the crowded places will be rarity after we pass Dulikhel city. The highway to Solukhumbu starts and the total driving hour will be around 7/8 hours. After tea refreshment, we begin our trek by Sigane towards Jhapre village (2920m/9580ft). It is around 2 hours walk to Jhapre and we stop for overnight stay at tea house.

The tea house is very basic, as the lifestyle. We begin our trek as earliest in the morning, so that we have enough day light for our day trip. We stop in Bulbhule tea house for lunch and continue towards our destination for the day, Pikey base camp, (3860 m/12664ft). The trail leads us through open grassland to beautiful forest trail with sight of Sherpa tea houses, Mani walls and the mountain views of mighty Himalayan range.

Starting early in the morning, you'll follow a gradual uphill trail to the summit of Pikey peak, (4060 meter/13336 ft) covered with prayer flags. The views are breathtaking! If the weather is clear, you'll be rewarded with panoramic views from Annapurna to Everest and Kanchenjunga.

From the top of Pikey Peak, you'll follow a ridgeline which starts flat and then steepens as you enter the forest to Jase Bhanjyang, where breakfast will be waiting. After breakfast, you'll continue your walk down to Loding, which passes through some steep sections in the forest. At Loding, you'll have a couple choices for accommodation which are both simple and charming.

Junbesi is a traditional Sherpa village sitting at an altitude of 2675 m/ 8776 ft, and is the cradle of Sherpa culture and architecture. The Sherpas consider the Solukhumbu a sacred valley. In this remote part of Nepal that borders Tibet, Buddhism flourishes and there are numerous Buddhist monasteries along the way.
There are a few options for the descent to Junbesi. The most likely is a stunning shortcut trail that leaves the ridge shortly after Jase and descends steeply through spectacular old growth forest to Taktor. This path meets the Everest Base Camp trail coming from Jiri. The tea houses from here are a little more developed, and you're likely to meet a few other tourists for the first time.
From Taktor, it is a couple of hours on a lovely trail to Junbesi.

Today we explore one of the highly regarded Sherpa monastery of Solukhumbu. The place is peaceful with beautiful spiritual essence. After our visit, we descend slowly towards Phaplu Airport.

After breakfast, we drive Back to Kathmandu by Jeep. In the evening we will have a farewell dinner in a traditional Nepalese restaurant with cultural performances. Overnight at hotel in Kathmandu.

The trip concludes – our airport representative will drop you to Kathmandu’s Tribhuwan International Airport for your flight departure from Nepal.
