The road drive to Salleri from Kathmandu is 263 km on a motorable road and consumes 9 hours. The off-road drive to Surkhe, a village below Lukla airport is approx.70 km from Salleri and consumes 6 hours on jeep. In total, it is 17 to 20 hour’s drive by jeep. To avoid a very long hour’s drive in a day. Overnight stay in Pattale can be rewarding as majestic view of mountain ranges including Mount Everest can be observed. However, you can drive further to Salleri to spend a night.
Glacial Lake Outburst Flood impact

Best Time for Everest Trek
The best seasons to trek are January, February, March, April, May, September, October, November, and December. The spring is warmer and lively as the flowers bloom, the waterfall overflows, and crops grow in fields. Whereas Autumn is slightly colder the weather is predicted to have a clear sky. However, the winter trek has the clearest skies and views but the freezing temperature hits you badly.
Everest Events
There are a few events that occur yearly. On May 29, the Everest Marathon program is scheduled. Participants both national and international run from Everest Base Camp to Namche in a day. The program is celebrated on the occasion of the First triumph of the highest peak in the world. During June or July, the Dumji Festival is celebrated for five days in Khumjung, Phortse, Pangboche, Namche, and Lukla by the Sherpa people. This is the biggest festival in the Everest region. Moreover, in November, Manirimdu is celebrated in the monastery of Tengboche and Junbesi. It is a tantric practice where different symbolic mask dances are performed by monks accompanied by comedy and ends with a blessing from the Lama.
